The Mary Turner Lane Award
This is a student paper competition established in honor of the late Mary Turner Lane, who founded the women’s studies program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The award will go to the best research paper on women/gender studies or original piece of writing such as personal or argumentative essay, (possibly but not necessarily) completed as one of the requirements of a class taken at LAU (literature, language, social sciences, cultural studies, philosophy, education etc.).
Categories
You can submit your paper under any of these two categories:
- Creative writing/essay/journalistic piece
- Research paper (undergraduate & graduate levels)
Selection criteria
Category 1: creative writing/essay/journalistic piece
- gender-sensitive approach
- originality of topic
- writing style
- does not exceed 2,000-3,000 words (font size 12, Times New Roman, double-spaced)
Category 2: research paper (undergraduate & graduate levels)
- gender-sensitive approach
- originality of topic
- writing style
- well-documented (footnotes & references)
- does not exceed 6,000 words (font size 12, Times New Roman, double-spaced)

Paper/study should be submitted electronically to IWSAW at iwsaw@lau.edu.lb, in addition to full name, contact information of applicant, course title/ number, and name of the professor.
