Lecture: Gender and Armed Conflict

The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World in partnership with the Department of Social Sciences at the Lebanese American University hosted a lecture entitled “Gender and Armed Conflict” on January 13, 2015.

As an expert on gender and armed conflict, Dr. Carol Mann gave a historical overview on the role and image of women in times of war. She also raised questions about the relationship between women’s nurturing image and their ability to inflict violence in times of conflict, which initiated a lively discussion following the lecture.

Dr. Carol Mann is a social anthropologist, an art historian and novelist, living in Paris. Dr. Mann is one of the co-founders of Women in War, an academic association based in Paris with a branch in Sarajevo.
