Rise With the Prize

The Institute for Women’s for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University (LAU) took part in the celebrations taking place around the world by “rising with the prize” on December 10, 2011. The “rise with the prize” event is organized by the Institute for Inclusive Security in collaboration with its Women Waging Peace Network of which IWSAW is a partner. The purpose of the event is to celebrate women’s contribution to peace building given that this year three women’s rights activists (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia, Leymah Gbowee, Liberia, and Tawakkul Karman, Yemen) will be receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in “recognition of their non-violent struggles for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work”. As part of the celebrations, IWSAW screened the documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” during the Global Classrooms - LAU Model UN meeting that took place in LAU Byblos. The event hosted around 400 secondary school students all over Lebanon, LAU students, as well as LAU faculty and staff.
